Yesterday, I went on a little (intense) Shop Hop with two gals from my night guild quilting group. Everyone here in Penticton has been very welcoming and the night group is always coming up with things to do. So we left here at 7am. Stopped in shops in Kelowna, Vernon, Armstrong, Salmon Arm, Pritchard and two in Kamloops..... A lot of miles in one day and we managed to shop in all of them too.....
Because we were going to Katja's Quilt shoppe in Kamloops, I had to pick up her book 'The New Hexagon'. She signed it for me and everything. There's also a Facebook group called the Millefore Quiltalong and I keep seeing my friends' creations on there so I have been looking (and buying) fabric that can be fussy cut into little pieces to make hand-pieced hexagons... I tried hand-piecing a few times before but never accomplished anything bigger than a pillow....So I tried last night with some fish fabric I got at Di-Versity Quilt shop in Pritchard (worth the hunt to find her)
Another thing that has drawn me into it's spell is the 'Vintage' quilting trend(?). Taking vintage linens and quilting them to preserve some incredible pieces of art created by someone and now, sadly, not used for it's original purpose anymore. We poked thru two antique stores in Summerland today again and beautiful pieces were no more than $5. I wanted to buy them all but I got three a few weeks ago so I promised myself that I would not buy anymore until I've done something with them. In the Artisan's Market in Summerland, a talented designer had used some vintage linens and doilies to create some one-of-a-kind clothing items... they were beautiful.
And, after seeing this video from Leah Day's website, I ordered the book 'No Sewing Until You Quilt It' by Ann R Holmes. Another distraction/method that I want to try so bad. I do have some work to do..... so I'd better get to it.
After talking to some shop owners yesterday, I realize how fortunate I am to have had a shop, enjoyed it so much and now exactly how much I appreciate the time I have to do some quilting. My eagerness and enthusiasm has come to life again. Life is awesome and I am so content with where I'm at right now.
I quilted up some small quilts for Cathy at Heart 'n Sole in Grand Forks and made a baby quilt for my birthday twin, who's baby was due on our birthday but made his appearance a little earlier than expected....
